A semiotic analysis of theatre posters and poster design for oyun atölyesi theatre

Poster, has the longest history in between visual communication tools, among graphic design products. Analyzing poster design by semiotic approach will make great contributions to the field of graphic design/ visual communication design. Semantics is an important field of science in interpreting and speculating messages.In this thesis study; the process of designing and visualizing the visual messages given in the poster designs in terms of semiotics, finding the solution ways, visualizing the messages to be conveyed to the target group and designing them in this context are discussed in the light of the semantic principles. In the first chapter of this thesis study titled as "'A semiotic analysis of Theatre posters and poster design for Oyun Atölyesi Theatre. the concept of poster is discussed, principles,items, types and application areas in poster design, historical development process and importance of poster design are explained. In the second chapter; mainly theatre and " The development process of theatre posters in Turkey are discussed. In the third chapter; the concept of "Semiotics" are discussed. In the fourth chapter; information about the selected as implementation area "Oyun Atölyesi" is given and posters of "Oyun Atölyesi" are examined with semiotic approaches. In the fifth and last chapter; the poster designed for "Oyun Atölyesi" are given by considering their design processes and explanations. With this thesis study, in which the theatre posters are considered in semiotic point of view, its also expected to provide resource to the researchers in the field of graphic design/visual communication.
