Hypertension and therisk for cardiovasculer morbidity because of OSAS have been demonstratedin many studies. But, there is no study demostrating the blood pressurechanges effected during the period, from primary snoring to OSAS.In this study, the blood pressure changes of the children with tonsillarhypertrophy who had no OSAS were evaluated by twenty four hourambulotory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) compared with controlsubjects.Twenty children with tonsillar hypertrophy (grade 3-4) and twentychildren as control subjects with similar age and gender were included in thestudy. The subjects who had active infection, medical therapy during thestudy and story of hipertension in the family were excluded.Twenty four hour ABPM was performed to all patient and controlgroups. The data by Soergel et al (65) was used as the normal data forABPM.There was no significance between the groups for average bloodpressure values for whole day, daytime and night, blood pressure load, bloodpressure index and blood pressure variability. The number of non dippers inthe patient group was greater than the control subjects. Altough we did notfind any statistical significance, the result would be valuable for systemic57hypertension and cardiovascular morbidity which would exist in the future.The studies with larger numbers of subjects must be planned to clarify this.Tonsillar hypertrophy, ambulotory blood pressue monitoring,Key words:hypertension, upper airway resistance, obstructive sleepapnea58
