Abstract (EN)

The study heading with "Tlos theatre stage building architecture and ornaments" is evaluated under five main topics. Among these topics, the history of Tlos ancient city and the emergence of the concept "Theatre", The main sections that compose the Tlos theatre,The architecture of stage building, The ornaments of stage building, the position and significance of Tlos theatre among Lycia theatres are tried to explain. The researches done about the theatre and stage building in Lycia district up to now, coul not come to a exact conclusion due to the reasons of: the short of digging and researches in the inspected cities, the condition of building, destruction and the research difficulty and presented mostly presumptive informations. In consequence of diggings handled in Tlos theatre, the stage construction that mostly completed, also the the studies of relievo, restitution, reconstruction and documentation are completed and thus detailed architectural reserches done which enable the construction to be completed in extense. The Tlos Theatre, which contructed in east-west direction in the mountain foot that borders the city-centre from the east, has a significant location with its unique architecture among the monumental structures in the city. The structure, that takes place in the great group of Lycia district with its three-storey stage construction and two stage cavea, has a particular importance with its temple architect that takes place just up center of its second cavea. This particular importance is also emphasised with the stage construction that is rendered magnificant with botanic and figured pargettings. The entrances to the theatre provided with the pradoses wh,ch locate in the North and South part of the Theatre. Apart from these again in the North and South direction, there are two vault entrances which dilated to the middle diazoma just behind the Cavea. Besides Two stairs ramps are known which enable the exit to the top diazoma from the east in the endpoints of the rear wall that enclosure the surrounding of cavea like a corridor. The radius of orchestra, that a bit exceeds the semicircle form,is 11 m. 11 and 21 bench take place in the ima cavea part of cavea arrangement, which is divided into teo by a large diazoma in the middle, and in suma cavea part 20 karkides and 16 bench take place. The edges of kerkides' which look towards the stairs rise are quickened by the lion feet protoms. Onto the first diazoma, prohedria armchairs are placed. Besides there are stairs than enable exit to the second cavea. The Tlos theatre stage construction which is in the North-south direction,is placed in the west side of the theatre. It is 38 meters lengt and 11 meters width. If we consider the Hyposkene ground flor It is a three-storey structure. The length of North exterior that the third floor blocks exist in term of in-situ. The stage construction which is a magnificiant structure in general, consists of main sections as proskene, hyposkene, skene frons, episkene postskene, paraskene and pulpitum. On the ground floor of the building there are 4 rooms, and 3 coridoors that is dilated from postskene to hyposkene. There are 5 doors dilated from Proskene to orchestra. The frontals: Proskene, skene frons, episkene ve postskene (stage building exterior) are quickened by aedikulas. Aedikus are strengthened with granite columns. The entablature parts of the structures constructed in composite system. In Scene frons front there are 5 doors and far from it in Postscene there are 7 window apertures. Likewise in Episcen there are 3, on the third floor of postskene there are 5 windows. The front of skene frons except aedicule is enriched further with garland frieze stringcourse and sculpture niches. In the stage building the floors of storeys are probably sperated from each other with wooden walls. The reason is that only the ground floor rooms have side walls and there isn't any architectural arrangement which constitude partition with upstairs. It is understood that from the inscriptions and ornaments that the theatre was undergone repairs several times in Roman peiod. However the general architecture and the earliest renovation inscription that dated to Augustus period points at the first stage of Tlos theatre was built before the Roman period. This early dating that is suggested for Tlos theatre,is supported with the memorial base which was taken from daylight in front of theatre's North main entrance and dated in the third century B.C. Moreover after the 141 A.D earthquake, incriptionş take place which tells us some help is done fort he renovation. The occurance of the Sculptures Emperor Hadrianus, Atoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius found among the niches in Skene, demonstrates us that Tlos ancient city had a special location in the Roman period. Once again The inscription found in Skene frons and sculpture pedestals found in postskene demonstrates the Deioterianos family's strength over Tlos ancient city was dated around 160 A.D.
