Abstract (EN)

Aim: Many people had been disabled or died because of disasters and accidents. In itialinterventions in disaster and accident situations are an important factor in preventing life-threatening and saving lives. Firefighters, as an important team of the emergency medical system, are actively involved in disaster and accident situations. The aim of this study is determine the basic life support and first aid knowledge levels of the fire brigade workers in Tokat. Material and Method: The population of this descriptive study was consisted of fire brigade workers in Tokat between 10.11.2018 and 16.01.2019. The questionnaires was prepared by the researchers in accordance with the literature were applied by face to face interview method. While evaluating the answers of the questionnaire questions, it is given that 30 points, where each correct answer was given 1 point and incorrect answer was given 0 point Analyses were made through the SPSS for Windows 22.00 statistical package on the computer. Results: All fire fighters were men who participated in the study. It was found that the fire brigade workers average age of 41,68 ± 8,73. 44,6% of the participants were at least high school graduates. It is seen that 27,3% received first aid training in the last year and 10,1% did not receive any training before. It was seen that the participants were given the lowest 5 points and the highest 24 points out of 30 from the questions asked to determine their basic life support and first aid knowledge level. The mean score of the participants was 16,49 ± 4,11. Conclusion: As a result, the basic life support and first aid knowledge levels of the fire brigade workers were examined and the mean score 16,49 ± 4,1 out of 30 points. Basic life support and first aid training of the fire brigade employees actively involved in disaster and accident situation sshould be repeated at regular intervals.
