The effect of toxic leadership perception on social cyberloafing: A study on the logistics industry

With the advancement of technology and the widespread use of the internet, it is observed that social media usage has been increasing day by day. This increase has not only affected people's social lives but also started to impact businesses. As a result, studies related to this topic have gained momentum and the concept of social cyberloafing has emerged to define social media usage during working hours. This research aims to examine the impact of perceived toxic leadership in the workplace on social cyberloafing behavior within the framework of social cognitive theory. Data was collected from employees of logistics companies in the Marmara Region for his purpose. In line with the data obtained, it was determined that the selfishness sub-dimension of toxic leadership positively affected social cyberloafing behaviors. The other sub-dimensions of toxic leadership such as unappreciation, authoritarian leadership, manipulativeness and negative mental state did not have a significant effect on social cyberloafing behaviors. According to the t test results on gender and marital status variables, it is observed that female employees and single employees engage in more social cyberloafing behaviors. According to the results of one-way ANOVA analysis of variance on the variables of age, education level and working time, it is seen that employees between the ages of 18-31, employees with a bachelor's degree and employees with a working time between 1-10 years engage in social cyberloafing behaviors more than others. The findings were thoroughly analyzed in the respective research and various solutions were proposed.
