Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between gender attitude and using violence of the men who used violence and didn't use violence to women. Material and Method: The research was carried out with the men working in Merkezefendi Public Hospital affiliated Research Ministry of Health Manisa Provincial Health Directorate and the men applying to the hospital for the aim of ambulatory treatment between September-December 2016. The research based on the quantitative and general scanning model (singular and relational) approved with 386 men. The socio-demographic information form prepared by the researcher was benefited on to specify the attendees' socio-demographic qualities, upbringing in childhood and harmful habits. Also, to evaluate the attendees' social gender attitudes, the scales of GEMS-GNAS was used. Assessment of the data was carried out with SPSS 21.0. The data were analyzed by benefiting on Chi-Square (χ2), Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests. Findings: 13,7% of men used violence to women. The men who used violence to women showed less fair attitude than the others. The factors such as level of partners' education, partners' work, number of children, marriage style were found to be effective variables on using violence to women. In statistical analyzes, meaningful results were obtained. Result: Gender attitude is effective on using violence to women. For this reason, for the reduction physical violence against women, men should adopt more fair gender attitudes. Keywords: Masculinity, Gender, Physical Violence Against Women
