Female criminality in the context of gender

Female criminality is an important issue in the field of social studies. Male criminality is more prominent compared to female criminality, and studies on female criminality are much fewer. Statistically, it is known that men are involved in crimes more frequently than women. In the crimes that women are involved in, they are often thought to play a secondary role. Particularly in our society, gender-based differences emerge in almost every aspect. Women growing up in a patriarchal structure spend a significant portion of their lives dependent on men. The imbalance of power and value between men and women in society leads to various problems. Crime is one of these issues. In the literature, female criminality has been attributed to various foundations such as feminist, psychological, and biological perspectives. As social changes over time have affected every area, they have also led to differences in this field. From this perspective, it is very important to evaluate the current relationship between women and crime. This article attempts to explain female criminality not only through gender differences but also through many other variables. The aim of this study is to uncover the underlying reasons for female criminality by examining the relationship between women and crime from a social perspective and integrating the views of women who have committed crimes. The research was conducted with fifteen female participants who have been involved in crimes. A qualitative research method was used in the study, and interviews were employed as the data collection tool. This approach allows for an analysis of how women involved in crimes understand their crime and prison experiences from both individual and social perspectives.
