Pictorial reflections of queer identities in the context of gender: Taner Ceylan

The concept of Queer Movement in Gender, which is the whole of thought and action that tries to understand the position of Queer Identities in society, change and transform it, also constitutes a theme of contemporary painting art. In this thesis, it has been determined that the way the concept of Gender is handled in many works in today's painting art is generally only through women, and in this context, in the third part of the thesis, an academic reference is made to the thesis by giving examples from artists from Europe and Turkey in the context of Queer Identities of the concept of Gender. In the introduction part of the thesis, the concept of gender is discussed sociologically, and in the first part, the situation of gender in the historical process is evaluated. Subsequently, first the definition of queer theory and then its sociological and cultural context in Turkey are discussed. In this context, in the 2nd and 3rd Chapters of the thesis, artists and their productions in contemporary painting art are included as a plastic element. In the fourth chapter of the thesis; Artist Taner Ceylan's works were examined and discussed within the framework of Gender and Queer Theory. As a result of the examinations, Artist Taner Ceylan's works, his motivation for his art and his manifesto contributed directly to the thesis. In addition, the thesis attempts to shed light on the process of Queer Identities living in Ceylan's works and the style used by the artist, and to contribute to the literature in academic circles, by discussing what Queer is/is not and the situation at the points where it comes together with art. In the last chapter, application studies, studies that support the context of gender and queer theory were produced and added to the thesis within their processes. Literary and visual texts were discussed and finalized with academic research and resources. Qualitative research method was used in this thesis study. In the research on the thesis topic, literature and thesis data centers were scanned. In the context of the thesis topic, articles, library and internet resources were used.
