A qualitative study on other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDB) in the context ofgender inequality

This study is designed and examined as a sociological investigation into "Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder" (OSFED) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) within the context of gender inequality. The interrelation between these two disorders has been a defining framework for the overall scope of the research. Particular emphasis is placed on the idealization and commodification of women's bodies in the social sphere through interactive platforms. The study is grounded in the notion that emerging body perceptions significantly affect individuals' sociological and psychological conditions, ultimately influencing their quality of life. Within this framework, the study explores how individuals construct their perceptual relationships with their eating behaviors and bodies, and how these constructions are shaped by dominations rooted in gender roles and cultural codes. The research employs qualitative methodology, using semi-structured in-depth interviews, which were analyzed through content analysis. The theoretical framework is based on postmodern feminism and draws on the works of theorists such as Goffman, Bourdieu, and Baudrillard. The analysis integrates both opposing and parallel perspectives, enriched by personal interpretations. The findings reveal that social controls, formed fundamentally around gender, play an active role in how individuals manage, shape, perceive, and monitor their bodies. The study concludes that the effects underlying disordered eating behaviors and distorted body image are not only personal but also deeply intertwined with societal and cultural dynamics.
