Özet (EN)

"The Reflection of Professions in Painting Art in the Context of Social Realism" the emergence of Social Realism began when artists started focusing on the concept of society. Social Realism emerged during the period when artists decided to depict the ordinary life and working conditions of society in their paintings. Shaped especially by the Industrial Revolution and social changes in the 19th century, Social Realism was embraced by artists with the aim of portraying the lives of the working class and, consequently, various professional groups in all their reality. This study, the influence of the Social Realism movement on art and the representation of professions in painting have been examined. Social Realist approaches in both Western and Turkish art have been analyzed, with a particular focus on how professional themes were treated by artists and how these themes served as documentary elements within their works. In Western painting, artists such as Gustave Courbet, Jean-François Millet, Vincent Van Gogh, Constantin Meunier, Adolph Menzel, and Fernand Léger depicted the living conditions of the working class and laborers, reflecting social issues in their works. These artists documented the social and economic structures of their time by portraying various professional groups, from agricultural workers to industrial laborers. Courbet's The Stone Breakers and Millet's The Gleaners are among the most realistic examples reflecting the harsh conditions of the working class. Menzel's detailed and multiple figurative narrative of workers and Meunier's documentation of miners and foundry workers further demonstrate the influence of the Social Realist approach in art. In Turkish painting, Social Realism became more prominent, especially after the 1940s. This artistic approach, shaped under the leadership of the Yeniler Group, was embraced by artists such as Nuri İyem, Nedim Günsür, Neşet Günal, Neşe Erdok, and Aydın Ayan. These artists focused on depicting peasants, workers, and traditional professions, demonstrating that art also serves as a means of social awareness. Neşet Günal emphasized the physical hardships of workers and peasants through deformation and sharp lines in his figures, while Nuri İyem portrayed Anatolian people with a simpler narrative. Nedim Günsür documented the daily lives of the working class through a documentary-style approach. This study explores the emergence of Social Realism, its reflections in Western and Turkish art, and how professional themes have been addressed through the works of artists. Artists not only depicted professions but also highlighted the social status, working conditions, and economic struggles of individuals engaged in these professions. The research concludes that Social Realist art is not merely an aesthetic field but also serves as a historical document of social events. Keywords: Daily Life, Social Realism, Society, Workers and Professions in Painting.
