The changing nature of social movements: New identities-new movements

This study is a product of the effort to understand how contemporary social movements are shaped during the on-going processes of social change and how they shape these processes. Within the study, social movements were dealt with as the actors, supporters and outcomes of the social change, as an area where social opposition becomes visible. In the first part of the study, outlines of the theory of the social movements were put forward and in the second part, the nature of the contemporary social movements were tried to be explained. This study, which is classified as "basic research" in terms of the research types, focuses on theoretical sources and applied research in the field. The findings were interpreted and tested in the context of the research hypothesis. Within this scope, it was concluded that contemporary social movements have been differentiated from their predecessors historically and reached a new form, but that is not in the form of a break.
