Abstract (EN)

The developments experienced in the field of industry in 20th-century Europe led to the emergence of substantial transformations, and these transformations opened the door for a new structuring process in the social sense. In addition to these, among the origins of the painful era experienced by societies, the violence of the World Wars witnessed in Europe and the years of economic crisis starting in the United States and spreading to Europe also had a significant role in the formation of the characteristics of the period. This is why, in this study, significant events shaping the period are discussed, issues over which the 20th century is criticized are focused on, and it is aimed to provide a general insight into the period by including the views of especially sociologists, philosophers, and historians researching these issues. "Modern Art", which is the art philosophy of the 20th century, is described through its relationships with the conditions in the period because it follows a path in parallel with the transformation of the era and geography it is in, and a general framework of modern art is presented by revealing several different approaches and narratives in it. After this, by examining examples of modern paintings that involve the critique of the period from social, cultural, and political perspectives, not only is a window opened to 20th-century Europe through the eyes of artists, but the art of painting in the period is also aimed to be explained with findings and citations regarding these works
