Abstract (EN)
The basis of study consists of crime of honor killing which is regulated in the article 82/1-(k) of Turkish Penal Code. Honor killing is briefly described as a murder which is the victim is alleged to be amoral and the motivation of killing is connected with the society's expectation of punishment. According to Turkish Penal Code (Act No. 5237) article 82/1-(k), the penalty for this crime is aggravated life imprisonment. Although it's not an element of the crime, honor killing most often show oneself as the murder of a woman or a girl by male family members. The offenders justify their actions by claiming that the victim has brought dishonor upon the dignity or prestige of the family. In this context, the boundaries of the relationship between unjust provocation and honor killings need to be clearly defined. Despite the primitive origins of honor killings, it continues it's existence in many parts of the world along with Turkey in this time and age. In fact, such crimes are widely suspected to be underreported; but still the United Nations Population Fund estimates that as many as 5,000 women are killed annually for reasons of honor. So it can be said that these crimes take place throughout the world and are not limited to one specific religion or faith.
