Design and manufacturing a dynamometer to measure the cutting force in a lathe

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it has been aimed to design and manufacture an appropriate dinamometer which is suitable for a turning lathe. Additionally, cutting forces and feed rate were reviewed for 5000 series aluminium. The surface roughness of parts which were used during testing has been reviewed by repeating the test under the same conditions and parameters so that designed dinamometer can confirm the results of application. During testing, the parts made of aluminium with standard length were used by changing firstly the parameters of revolution per minute, then cutting depth and finally feed rate. After tests were finished, cutting forces and feed forces were analyzed. The tests were carried out in three steps. In first step, the tests were carried out respectively with the parameters of 1000 rpm, 1500 rpm and 2000 rpm under constant values of 0,5 mm cutting depth and 0,1 mm feed rate. In second step, the tests were carried out respectively with the parameters of 0,5 mm, 1 mm and 1,5 mm cutting depths under constant values of 1000 rpm and and 0,1 mm/s feed rate. In last step, the tests were carried out respectively under the parameters of 0,1 mm/s, 0,2 mm/s and 0,3 mm/s feed rates under constant values of 1000 rpm and and 0,5 mm cutting depth. All data obtained during tests have been recorded by means of analyzing programm Dasylab 2016. It has been observed that increase in revolution per minute causes decrease in cutting force and feed rate according to the experimental results. On the other hand increase in cutting depth and feed rate causes increase in cutting force ans feed rate. Results obtained from measurement of surface roughness support above clarified results.
