Abstract (EN)
In this research, we examined the impact of discharge education given before and after the surgery for total hip replacement patients based on Daily Life Activities and Quality of Life. We conducted a cross-sectional and interventional study at Adnan Menderes University Research and Practice Hospital of Orthopaedics and Traumatology service, between the dates of July 15 2013- July 15, 2014 on patients who have total hip replacement surgery. We took 25 patient as a intervention group and 25 patient as a control group in 18 between 65 age old. We collected data on using sociodemographic information questionnaire, the SF-36 and the Katz scale with face to face interview technique. We visited patients before surgery, after first and third mounts at their home. We performed training to the intervention group, the control group were left to the orthopedic clinic procedures. In this study the suitability of the data for normal distribution is provided by one example kolmogorov smirnov test whereas data for homogeneity is provided by using homogeneity of variance test. And also for nonparametric datas methods such as Ki-Kare test Friedmann Test and Mann whitney –U are used appropriately. Descriptive datas are given as percentages, mean ± standard deviation (SD) or median (min-max). Type 1 error level is taken as 0.05. Also Intervention and control group's data median is compared via Mann Whitney-U test. For the data analysis, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows 18 (SPSS Inc.,Chicago,IL, USA 10241440) is used. According to the survey data, it is determined that the average age of the patients in the control group are 55.96 (± 10.26 min: 26, max: 65), and 53.88 in the intervention group patients (± 10.28 min: 29, max: 64) . 16 patient of the control and experimental group were female (64%) and 9 were men(36%), 15 of the control group of patients (60%) had primary education, 19 of the experimental group (76%) had primary education In this study, we have shown that in terms of activities of daily living preoperatively no difference between the two groups (p 0,05), whereas the first mounth (p <0.001) and third mounth (p <0.001) were significant difference between two groups. In addition , we have found that prior to surgery in terms of the scores of the SF-36 scale sub-components; there were no difference between the two groups, but end of the third month in physical functioning (p <0.001), physical role (p <0.001), pain (p <0.001), vitality (p <0.001) , emotional role (p <0.001) and mental health (p <0.001) components were significant different at two groups. In the study; for determining the effectiveness of patient education given to discharged patients who had Total hip arthroplasty surgery ; Katz activities of daily living scale and quality of life using the SF-36 scales have been used. Using the educational role of the nurse, the planning of nursing services and patient care needs at home for the determination of the patients their relatives was found to be guiding. The findings are discussed in the existing literature. In conclusion; discharge education for the total hip replacement patients in the experimental group had an increase in quality of life after surgery and their daily activities are possitively affected. Key words: total hip replacement, activities of daily living, quality of life, discharge education
