Özet (EN)

Institution is one of the basic concepts that we use frequently in daily life and which is the subject of many researches. Erving Goffman studied the institution from different perspectives and conducted studies based on the conceptualization of the total institution. By the end of 2019, it was seen that the pandemic process called Covid-19 included elements that point to the concept of total institution. Differences in the presentation of the self that are frequently encountered in total institutions have been observed in the diversity of attitudes towards the Coronavirus vaccine. The study deals with the observations of the totalizing world order with the Covid-19 pandemic process. In addition, it is aimed to examine the changes in the attitudes of individuals towards the vaccine in the context of the total institution conceptualization. In line with this purpose, it was deemed appropriate to conduct a semi-structured interview technique with 10 female and 10 male participants who were not vaccinated against the coronavirus. Phenomenology, which is included in the qualitative research method, was used in the study. In the research, descriptive analysis and content analysis were made. The research consists of four parts. In the first part, concepts such as institution, total institution, and self are analyzed and a conceptual and theoretical framework is presented. In the second part, the index of developments that emerged with the pandemic process was examined. In the third chapter, the methodology of the research is discussed. The fourth chapter constitutes the part where the findings of the study are analyzed. The findings were analyzed and the differences in self-presentation were discussed in detail by relating them within the concept of total institution. In the study, the reasons for not being vaccinated were mistrust of the vaccine, religious factors, fear of side effects, social media influence, etc. factors were found to be effective. It has been seen that the rules applied such as travel restriction and curfew point to the process leading to totalization. It was determined that the participants shared their opinions about the vaccine with their close circles, but were hesitant to present their identities on social media. Keywords: Institution, total institution, self, pandemic, vaccine, Coranavirus.
