ABSTRACTCutting tools are the high technology materials, which are used for forming the hard metalsthat have high quality and high precision in dimension. During the producing of cutting tools,the atmospher of the working area is very important to choose the correct material. Thecommon properties that are waiting from cutting tools are; hardness and red hardness, wearresistance, toughness and economical cost. Sintering mechanism of high speed steels is themost important parameter for the diffusion. Therefore, the mechanical values those areexpecting from the materials can be obtained by controlled sintering. The tool is obtained thebest mechanical properties by the heat treatments. Finished tool is obtained after the last step,CVD, treatments. Choosing of correct tool steels and cutting tools can protect the effects ofhigh temperature due to friction. This will make the tools life longer and by the way economiccost can be obtained too.In this study, production method of the cutting tools by PM method and conventional methodwere given; the facts which affects the processes were examined. The microstructure of thesamples, process and mechanical properties of them were observed which produced by PM.Various cutting tools were examined, the mechanical properties of the compounds and heattreatments were backed up with the experimental results.Keywords: High speed tool steels, hard metal, sintering, cutting toolxii
