Evaluation of joint movements of patients with upper extremity bone fracture as a result of traffic accidents in terms of disability regulation

Aim: In the study, it was aimed to compare the sequelae of the cases with upper extremity bone fractures as a result of traffic accident among the cases who applied for disability report, as a result of the conservative/surgical treatment approaches applied, over the disability rates calculated using the Disability Regulation. Materials and Methods: Among the disability reports prepared in Inonu University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine between 01.01.2020 and 31.12.2020, the cases with upper extremity bone fractures included age, gender, date of the accident, whether the accident was inside or outside the vehicle, the time between the date of the accident and the date of the inspection, fractured bone type, the location of the fracture on the bone, and the conservative/surgical treatment approach applied to the disability rate calculated using the Disability Regulations were evaluated. Obtained data were analyzed with IBM SPSS 26.00. Results: 345 cases were analyzed. 60.3 % of the cases were men, 39.7 % were women, and the mean age was 38.28 (ss: 15.245; min:18-max:84), 42 % of the accidents occurred in the summer season, most frequently in July and August, 43.2 % of them were in-vehicle traffic accidents, 14.5 % of them were examined in the 7th month after the accident, the mean disability rate was found 4.53 in isolated distal radius fractures with conservative treatment, 4.24 in isolated clavicle fractures, 6.09 in isolated proximal humerus fractures, 5.23 in isolated distal radius fractures in surgical treatment, 5.57 in isolated clavicle fractures and 6.81 in isolated proximal humerus fracture. Conclusion: When the disability rates of the distal end radius, proximal end humerus and clavicle fractures were examined as a result of the treatment approaches, we found that the average disability rate was lower in the conservatively treated patients.
