A research on the current agricultural production in Thrace

In this study, current agricultural structure of Thrace was presented and the agricultural structures of the three provinces in Thrace (Kırklareli, Edirne, Tekirdağ) were comparatively examined and the variations of the agricultural structures of the provinces within years were examined. Besides, the agricultural structures of the total of 28 districts of the provinces were examined comparatively by multi-dimensional scaling and cluster analysis. The data of total population, number of the farmers registered to farmer registration system, wheat, barley, sunflower, rice, canola, clover, vetch, maize for silage planting areas and production amounts, cereals and other vegetative plants, vegetable, fruit, beverage and spices plants, fallowing, meadow and pasture areas, number of cattle, small cattle, poultry and bee hives of the districts were obtained for 2016-2018 years. It was determined that all of the variables changed according to the provinces in different significance levels. According to the multi-dimensional scaling analysis results, it was determined that Keşan, Süleymanpaşa, Hayrabolu and Malkara districts were determined to be the most significant districts in terms of the variables. According to the cluster analysis results, it was determined that the districts were generally gathered in three clusters. It was determined that Edirne Merkez, Havsa, Süloğlu, Babaeski, Vize, Demirköy, Kofçaz, Ergene, Saray districts were in the first cluster, Keşan, İpsala, Meriç, Lüleburgaz, Pınarhisar, Pehlivanköy Süleymanpaşa, Çorlu, Muratlı, Malkara, Kapaklı, Marmara Ereğlisi, Şarköy districts were in the second cluster and Uzunköprü, Enez, Lalapaşa, Kırklareli Merkez, Hayrabolu and Çerkezköy districts were in the third cluster. The findings of this study will guide the policymakers and the academia on the subjects such as the production planning of the region, basin product support studies and short run agriculture policies.
