Abstract (EN)
Objective: Prostate cancer ( PCa ) is one of the most common cancers in men in the world and in our country. The gold standard method in the diagnosis of prostate cancer is transrectal ultrasound guided prostate biopsy. In this randomized prospective study, the effect of music added to periprostatic blockage (PPB) on the level of pain in 107 patients who underwent transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy, was investigated since prostate biopsy procedure causes undesirable results such as anxiety and pain in patients. Materials and methods: 107 patients who were scheduled for TRUS-guided prostate biopsy between March 2022 and August 2022 and who met the study criteria were included in the study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. The control group consisting of 56 people who underwent PPB and did not listen to music was determined as the first group. The group consisting of 51 people who made PPB and listened to music was determined as the 2nd group. Post-procedure pain level of each patient who underwent prostate biopsy was evaluated with visual analogue scale(VAS) and recorded on the procedure form. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of mean age, serum prostate specific antigen (PSA), prostate volume measurements and blood pressure. When the VAS scores between the two groups were compared, it was calculated as 5.21±1.63 and 3.39±1.64 in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. This difference was considered statistically significant (p<0.001) Conclusion: In our study, it was showed that music added to the periprostatic blockade in patients who underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsy can reduce the pain levels of the patients. It may be concluded that, performing prostate biopsy with music is an important factor in pain control of patients. Key words: transrectal ultrasonography, prostate, biopsy, pain, music
