Abstract (EN)
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory satisfactory sexual intercourse. Aetiology of ED includes ageing, obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, anxiety disorder and depression and smoking. However, ED is commonly associated with prostate gland pathologies and lower urinary tract symptoms. Prostate cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer in men, that incidence increases every year with prostate spesific antigen (PSA) screenings. Negative effects of prostate cancer treatment on erectile function is well known, however, most of patients have some degree of ED during diagnosis. It is considered that both diseases arise from common aetiological risk factors but there is lack of evidence which prostate cancer is an independent risk factor for ED. Purpose of this study; to compare erectile function and prostate cancer detected in transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) guided biopsy in men without any risk factor of ED. 151 men without comorbidities, anxiety or major depression and usage of smoking included for study. Mean IIEF-5 score of 64 patients without cancer was 20,2, mean IIEF-5 score was 17,6 for 87 patients in prostate cancer group and there was a statistically significance with both groups (p=0,003). There was a negative corelation with Gleason scores and erectile functions. However, there was no statistically significance with presence of perineural invasion, number of positive cores and tumor localisation and ED.
