Abstract (EN)

Comfort means easement that changes daily life. Ensuring the satisfaction of women at birth is largely related to ensuring comfort. Non-pharmacological methods increase the maternal birth satisfaction. In our study, the effect of shower, which is one of the non-pharmacological methods, on the birth comfort is evaluated. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of showering in the mother on the birth and postnatal comfort of the mother. A randomized controlled study model was used in this study. This study was carried out in Afyonkarahisar State Hospital. Pregnant women waiting for birth in labor and active phase of the action were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (50 + 50) in a 1: 1 ratio. The data were collected by using a face to face interview technique. The questionnaire consists of two parts, the first of which was applied before birth and the second after birth. In the evaluation of the data, Student's t-test was used for the comparison of the two independent groups in the normally distributed variables, and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for the non-normal distribution, and the chi-square test for the categorical variables. In our study, no significant difference was found between the groups in terms of sociodemographic characteristics (except working status), gynecological histories, pregnancy-related characteristics and socio-cultural sub-scale of the Postpartum Comfort Scale (p <0,05). In the experimental group, there was a strong correlation between birth satisfaction and postpartum comfort (r = 0,68), a 5-minute Apgar score (r = 0,40) between the birth satisfaction and the baby's mid-strength (r = 0,40) between the cord pH; A moderate-strong relationship was found between postpartum comfort and cord pH (r = 0,38). In addition, postnatal comfort (p <0,05) and satisfaction scores (p <0,05) of the women who did not undergo episiotomy were significantly higher in the experimental group. In the experimental group, postnatal comfort and birth satisfaction scores of women who breastfeeding their babies the first half hour were significantly higher (p <0,05). The results of our study show that although the shower has no direct effect on birth satisfaction and postpartum comfort, it has a positive effect on birth outcomes. Results of the study on birth comfort are collecter into three categories as "useful", may useful " insufficient data'. Hydrotherapy methods, one of the "may useful" applications, were found to decrease pain and increase birth satisfaction compared to standard care. Keywords: Birth, Birth satisfaction, Birth comfort, Postpartum comfort, showering.
