Abstract (EN)
Entrance: This research was conducted by evaluating 238 patients who developed upper and middle thoracic vertebral fractures after trauma between January 2012 and December 2020 in Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery. Objective: Of the cases who applied to our hospital due to trauma, had upper and middle thoracic vertebral fractures, and had medical or surgical treatment; To determine the fracture type according to age, gender, cause of injury, neurological status, fracture level and classification methods retrospectively, to compare and discuss our results with the literature. Material and Method: In this study, 238 patients who developed post-traumatic upper and middle thoracic vertebral fractures in Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery between January 2012 and December 2020 were included. As a result of Direct X-ray, Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) taken when the patients applied to the hospital, each patient was classified separately. The study was evaluated statistically. Discussion: The rate of thoracic trauma is increasing in direct proportion to the development of technology and socioeconomic level in all societies. Kyphotic angulation has a very important place in upper and lower thoracic vertebral fractures. Currently, the most useful classification is the ATLICS classification, and our results support this situation. However, there are still many points where it falls short. Conclusion: It is essential to evaluate the preoperative and postoperative kyphotic angle at the point of surgical decision making. More work should be done to add kyphotic angle to existing classifications. Keywords:Thoracic vertebra, Fracture,AO Spine, TLICS classification, Kyphotic angle
