Preparation and characterization of fast dissolvingtriamcinolone acetonide oral film

The aim of this study is to develop and characterize an oral rapid dissolving film (ODF) formulation containing 5 mg triamcinolone acetonide with a rapid disintegration time and appropriate mechanical properties to treat oral ulcerations by increasing the compliance and comfort of patients who are not compliant with traditional carrier systems. In the optimum formulation, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) was used as the film-forming agent, polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) as the plasticizer and Tween 80® as the surfactant. While HPMC is preferred due to its film-forming ability, transparency and adhesive properties, many films containing active substances have been prepared using HPMC and plasticizers in different ratios.
