Abstract (EN)

Petroleum crisis during the last years have increased the significance ofresearches coal that can supply the energy requirement for long period withexisting reservoirs through the world. Although there are high lignite reservoirsin our country, high sulphur content limits the efficient use of them.Particularly lignite combusted in thermal power plants is reason of air pollutiondue to SO2 and SO3 emission which occur during combustion. Therefore, airpollution is one of the vital problems of our century. To avoid this problem, research aiming to removal of the combustible sulfur of lignite from Tufanbeyliwhich has high lignite reservoirs , was done. In this study, it is aimed to convertof combustible sulfur in coal, to non-combustible sulfate form by hydrogenperoxide solution. The parameters affecting the sulfur conversion, concentration of hydrogen peroxide solution, reaction time and partical size ofwere investigated. Maxiumum desulfurization efficiency was 79 % with 0,25mm partical size, 12 hours reaction time, and % 15 hydrogen peroxideconcentration compared with combustible sulfur in lignite which was brought toconstant weight in the air.Science Code : 912Key Words : Desulphurization, coal, hydrogen peroxide, selective oxidantPage Number : 75Adviser : Assoc.
