The relationship between burnout and job satisfaction: A study on the tower personnel

Abstract (EN)
This study composed of three main parts. First and second parts consist of theoretical framework which explains the concepts of burnout and job satisfaction. In the third part, a survey aiming to identify the effect of employee?s burnout levels on job satisfaction in a public organization is examined.Related to the aim of this study, a questionnaire consisting of three parts has been prepared. The first part includes questions about the demographic variables of the employees (age, gender, marital status, education and working period). In the second part of the questionnaire it has been used the Maclach Burnout Inventory, consists of 22 statements to measure employees? Burnout level. The third part is composed of 36 statements belong to Spector?s Job Satisfaction Inventory.The survey carried out with 171 employees working in shifts at Air Traffic, Air Information and Air Communication departments of Esenboğa Airport. The research results were evaluated by the correlation analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskall-Wallis H test using SPSS 15.0 software.The results of application showed that there is a negative relationship between employees? burnout level and job satisfaction, that is, an increase in burnout level decreases job satisfaction. These findings are in line with the expectations. However, a statistically significant relationship has not been found between `demographic variables and employees? burnout level.Key Words:1-Burnout2-Job Satisfaction3-Organizational Stress4-Stress
