Factors related to consumers label reading habits and their preference over nutrition label and package

This study has been planned and carried out in order to determine the factorsrelated to consumers preferences on food labels, packaging, their habit of readingfood labels.The study has two stages and 250 lecturers and 100 civil servants, total 350(239 females, 111 males) participant in the survey information related to habit ofreading food labels, what they prefer to see in food labels, food packagingpreferences, special label preferences and information about customers have beenrevealed. Besides, they were asked questions about food label samples and labels. Inthe evaluation phase of the information obtained, frequency ( f ) and percantage( %) distribution have been used. Apart from this, usering this rating scale, 1( never),2 ( sometimes), 3 (always) for their nutritional fact preference, arithmetical average( Χ ) and standart devation (SD) have been calculated.57.5 % of the consumers always read price, 76.9 % production date 78.4 %expiry date and 49.4 % best-before date. When arithmetical averages are concerned,the averages varied between =1.82 ile =2.78 of the 15 label information given,Χ Χ3 of it was read always 12 of it was read sometimes. According to this, consumersread the whole information written on food label and price Χ =2.55, production=2.78 was read always. The highest average is theΧ Χ=2.75 and expiry datereading of expiry date information.80.5 % of the consumers regard colour and easy- to-understand layout as themost important element in usefulness and 36.5 % of them favours labels, whichshows the percentage of daily need of nutrition with colour bar graphics, because itis the most easy-to-understand one.Key Words: Nutrition Fact, Food label, food packaging
