Abstract (EN)
The space represents not only an area which gains meaning in the context of production relations and daily routines, preparing the ground for consumption relations and is an object of consumption; but also an area on which the individual and groups establish relations and interactions developing cultural products and practices. In this study, Antalya-Kaleiçi which has been used more as a consumption space in the recent years despite of it's being a historical space, is discussed. Kaleiçi has been examined in terms of the historical space consciousness of the individuals, their daily and consumption practices, the demographic characteristics of the people using it, the frequent spaces and the reason of preference; and the story of the mentioned space has been evaluated sociologically. The research has a quantitative research design. The data have been collected through a survey form for Antalya Kaleiçi as it is one of the quantitative research methods. The data were analysed and interpreted through frequency and chi-square tests. In order to support the quantitative data and add depth into the research, in addition to space observation notes, 14 Kaleiçi tradesmen were interviewed. It has been determined that Kaleiçi has been used for different purposes in different time zones by different local and global identities: In the day time, particularly in the morning hours, it stands as a space of cultural trips, shopping or accomodation for the tourists while at night it has been used as an entertainment space by the locals with its bars, taverns, cafes and restaurants.
