Abstract (EN)

Having been one of the most controversial issues recently, the concept of consumption has been examined in this work in terms of space/place and fashion elements. The aspect of consumption is effective in every level of the society. Consumption is an element which determines the social status of the individuals. In addition to this, consumption has created false necessities and has led individuals to consumption. In this respect, consumption concept has generated new concepts of place. The individuals have been led to the consumption places in order to spend time providing that they consume their leisure time. The development of these places is significant in terms of the exhibition of fashion. The objects are covered within the magic of fashion in the consumption places. While the fashion has constituted the consumption activities of the upper class at the beginning, the fashion have become massive with the industrial revolution. With the mass-production, fashion has enlarged towards the lower class. Mass-production has democratized the fashion and allowed the lower class to take place in the consumption. Fashion objects are exhibited in the consumption places having an effect of maximizing the urge for consumption. The store windows have been arranged according to the fashion, thus have increased the will for consumption. As a result, place and fashion concepts increase the consumption. Place and fashion have gone through some changes in the historical frame with the proliferation of consumption. In this work, the changes which have occured in fashion and place have been analyzed.
