Advantages of applying M-Bus standards in consumption meters compared to traditional methods

One of the most important criteria for the efficient use of energy and water resources has been the measurement of the consumption of these resources. Consumption meters invented in this context have undergone various evolutions in parallel with the development of technology. The most important need in obtaining data from meters has been the difficulty of reading many meters with distance between them in a short time and accurately, and with the development of technology, standards and protocols have been developed to solve this problem in the most economical and effective way. Today, consumption meters that automatically measure and record data automatically according to the latest technology are called smart meters, and systems that automatically receive data from meters and transfer this data to energy and water supply companies are called automatic meter reading (AMR - Automatic Meter Reading or OSO) systems. In this thesis study, which was conducted by examining the literatures on M-Bus standards and AMR systems; Technological developments with the application of M- Bus standards in consumption meters and meter reading systems and their advantages over traditional consumption meters data acquisition methods are explained.
