Attitudes of students of tourism faculty towards learning Russian

Tourism is an activity which developing day by day and contributes to the economy of the country. It is an inevitable fact that knowledge of foreign languages is quite necessary for the continuation and progress of this sector. Foreign language options are increasing day by day in the middle and high schools that provide tourism education. Russian language is one of them. Russian is still protecting its important and being spoken in 15 countries even after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union and it is the state language of Russian Federation which sends the most tourists to the Republic of Turkey. The Faculty of Tourism of Kastamonu University also gives Russian education and pays attention to its education. This study researches Tourism Faculty students' attitudes towards learning Russian in terms of cognitive, affective, and behavioral components. It is also aimed to investigate demographic information such as gender, age, department, class, and students' weekly spending time on learning Russian language. This study was conducted by questionnaire. A total of 308 students from Kastamonu University Faculty of Tourism participated to the questionnaire. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the attitudes of the students of Tourism Faculty towards learning Russian and foreign language were quite positive. Another result of this study was that participants wanted to speak Russian very well and the reason which motivated them was to speak Russian fluently. The Factor Analysys were used for the analyses of the data. Data were analyzed with 95% confidence level. All these procedures were implemented with the SPSS v22.0.
