İhap Hulusi Görey on the development of Turkish posters art and his effects on the contemporaty Turkish graphic art

We analyzed how changes at the circular and periodical processes of the subject of "Poster and Development of Poster" which I studied within the development of graphic art in Turkey came into existence at the hands of artists and designers. As all art branches, graphic art functioned as a mirror of the society by reflecting the traces of its era and conditions. In this respect, the printed publication that started with Müteferrika's first printed book "Vankul" completed its socio-economic and socio-cultural development in time and qualified as "documenting." At the research, the chronology of graphic art history shows that graphic art that never severs its connection with the past and always faces future had identity problems until 1950s and had a big break at 1960s. At this research, we analyzed the effect of İhap Hulusi Görey, who functioned as a bridge between Ottoman Empire and republic, on his contemporaries and contemporary Turkish graphic art with his strong style. The most distinguishing characteristic of Görey is his education in Germany at that times and as a reflection of this, his spotted forms and strong shading that he brings together with "Graphical Illustration Technique". While reflecting his teacher Ludwing Hohlwein's traces at his works, he turns the conventional water color technique into a graphic material that conveys messages directly by mixing it with the conjuncture of the country and this is another important characteristic of him. With the qualitative research method used in this research, 18 questions were developed with the sights of experts on Görey's 14 posters and a book cover illustration which he drew at different times. With the questions based on 15 posters typography and typographic arrangements, graphical language and expression styles are studied within the scope of poster designing criteria. It is researched how Görey directed social, political, cultural, economic and ideologic concepts with his art at his posters within Turkey's development phase and enlightenment process.
