Abstract (EN)
The aim of the thesis ?The Balkans Agreement on the Turkish Press? is to research on how the Balkans Agreement, which was signed in 1934 between Romania, Albania, Greece and Yugoslavia, was reflected on the Turkish Press; how much the community was acquainted with the details of the agreement; how the other Balkan countries saw the agreement, what the other Balkan countries? communities and presses thought about the agreement, and also how long the agreement existed itself and its effects. This groundwork of the Balkan Agreement lasted for a long time. Therefore this thesis includes both the political developments of Balkan countries in 1932 and also the years 1933 and 1934. This is a work based on the newspapers of those years. To frame the thesis, first of all the newspapers have been scanned and the news have been classified. The thesis took benefit from Foreign Policy and Political History works which include the terms of the Agreement. In the thesis, first of all the blateral agreements done between the Balkans countries, and then the Balkans Conferences, adressed by the six Balkan countries ( Turkiye,Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Yugoslavia) are dwelt on. The developments, reflected on Turkish press while those conferences were going on, are examined. The other subjects of the thesis are; the withdawals from the Balkan Agreement in the process of signing the Agreement; teh range of the agreement; and Balkan countries? point of view of the Agreement; and all the reflections on the newspapers. As a result of all these studies; it can be seen that our country has followed a peaceful policy and has ignored most of the problems occured in the past in order to maintain the alliance in the Balkans; and also it can be understood that the reapprochment between Greece and Turkiye is obviously beneficial to the agreement. This reapprochment has been so strong that they said both countries would be governed by a collective President and the bounds would be eradicable. Bulgaria was the most reluctant Balkan country during and after the Agreement. The news that came from Bulgaria was that they could not attend the Balkan Agreement without other countries providing concessions to them. So Bulgaria did not include in the Agreement. Yugoslavia and Romania had constructive approaches to the Agreement and they saw it as a big step for the world peace. Although Albania had a positive attitude in Balkan Conferences, later it did not sign the Agreement under the influence of Italy and Bulgaria. This study focusses on all the attitudes of European countries about the Agreement. Consequently, the Balkan Agreement has been an important step in terms of world peace in Balkans and Europe. Anyway the aim of these countries which signed the Agreement is not only to protect their boundaries but also to maintain the world peace forever.
