Protection of women's right to life in the Turkish Penal Code

The crime of killing against women is one of the crimes that directly affect the right to life of women. In order to prevent the commission of these crimes, there are various regulations that are valid in the international and national arena. These arrangements are directly related to sociology and legal science. As a matter of fact, the issue of protecting women's right to life concerns both society and law. The protection of women's right to life through law and in particular through Criminal Law is governed by Articles 81 and 82 of the Turkish Penal Code. It made it necessary to examine in detail the crime of intentional killing set out in its articles. The main focus here is to reveal the role of the Turkish Penal Code in terms of protecting women's right to life. For this reason, in this study, the perpetrator of the crime of intentional killing is a man and the victim is a woman, in other words, the crimes of intentional killing committed by a man against a woman will be examined. Our study consists of three sections in total and in the first part; Within the framework of human rights, women's right to life and their position as victims will be examined. In the second part; international and national legislation to protect women's right to life and which we can qualify as basic resources in this direction will be included. In the third part; The crime of intentional killing, which constitutes the main starting point of the study and plays a key role in the violation of women's right to life, will be examined; however, when examining the type of crime in question, explanations and examples will be included through the events in which the woman has the title of victim.
