Musical terms in Turkish language

This study was prepared to identify and evaluate the terms related to music used in historical Turkic written languages. Within the scope of the thesis, works belonging to the periods of Kokturk, Uighur, Karakhanid, Khwarezm, Mamluk-Kipchak, Chagatai, Old Anatolian Turkish and Ottoman Turkish, which are suitable for the purpose of the study, and all kinds of academic studies that can be accessed on the subject were scanned and the material obtained was classified and analyzed. In order to trace the existence, development and change of musical terms in Turkish, it is important to bring together the terms used in the historical process and evaluate them collectively. The term "musical terms" refers to words meaning musical instruments, musicians, musical modes, ceremonies, dances, and words related to sound and sound, which are the basic elements of music. In the first part of the thesis, information about the history of music culture in Kokturk, Uighur, Karakhanid, Khwarzem, Kipchak, Chagatai, Old Anatolian Turkish and Ottoman Turkish periods is given. In the second part, the places where the music terms are found in the works belonging to historical Turkic written languages are indicated with abbreviations and shown in the bibliography, and the sentences, verses or couplets containing the terms are written together with the sentences, verses or couplets in order to understand the place of the terms in the context and the bullet points are listed alphabetically. In the third section, an etymological analysis of the Turkish music terms was conducted. In this section, 12 etymological dictionaries were utilized, the opinions of important scientists in the field were cited and finally explained together with the author's opinions. In the conclusion section, a broad evaluation of the thesis is made, and the thesis is concluded by stating the gains gained from the study, its contributions to the field and making suggestions. There is a terminological index at the end of the study.
