Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT From the past to the present television has spread rapidly as an effectively tool and it has presented many kinds of programs to the audience. Especially the TV series which are types of TV programme came to the force and became standard with the content and molds presented. Series, which are frequently encountered in our lives, present the gender patterns to the audience and influence the social continuity and thus help the construction of gender. This situation basically defends the patriarchal order which produces negative results and woman is forced to live with the tasks attributed to her. In this study, how women are positioned, how they are represented in the TV period serials and the outcoming profiles are analyzed. While making these evaluations, female characters are examined with the method of content and genre analysis and they are presented to the audience as individuals as a self-sacrificing mother and wife, living in an restricted area and being kept in the background with her thoughts and ideas.
