Investigation of problems of Turkish education system

The aim of this research is to examine the problems of the Turkish education system. Research is a qualitative descriptive research. The study group was determined by the criteria sampling method, which is a purposeful sampling method. In this group, there are teachers, school managers, assistant principals, department inspector and branch managers in Gaziantep University Educational Administration, Inspection, Planning and Economy graduate program without thesis in the summer term of 2013-2014 academic year. The research data were collected through "Thematic Questions Form". The data were analyzed by content analysis. According to research findings, problems of teachers, students, administrators, parents, physical infrastructure, finance and education program of the Turkish Education system are revealed. Results are reached according to, qualified teachers could not be educated in the Turkish education system, teachers could not continue their professional development, working conditions in schools is not suitable, teachers have assignment problems, teachers have financial troubles; students are experiencing intense examination stress, disciplinary problems are experienced in the schools, socioeconomic level of the families is inadequate; there is a problem of manager appointment and training, the management of managers is inadequate; there are problems about school-parent communication and parents are irresponsible, the physical domains and elements of school buildings do not conform to the level of student development and the architectural structure of the buildings is unfavorable; the budget allocated for education is insufficient; the educational programs have not been prepared considering regional differences and as a result of this, the content issue has occured. Based on these results, it can be said that permanent and effective reforms should be made by taking the opinions of all education stakeholders in line with the findings regarding the problems of the Turkish education system.
