Examination of the problems encountered in Turkish folk music

Voice training includes a process carried out with techniques developed for correct, effective and beautiful singing. These techniques are applied with musical details in mind. Voice training aims to provide the singers with the most effective and correct performance skills in a related musical genre. Turkish folk music is a deep-rooted musical art that expresses the common feelings and thoughts of the society with simple, sincere, and enthusiastic melodies. Voice training applied in the field of Turkish folk music, which is one of the important building blocks of our tradition, is important. On the other hand, for years, voice training studies in conservatories and music departments have been carried out by educators who are specialized in western music field. Voice training should include specific vocal range, resonance and articulation characteristics of the type of music being performed.In addition, it should be specific to the person, appropriate to the person's anatomy and cultural characteristics. Therefore, in this study, it is assumed that voice education should be handled within its cultural context.In this study, the relationship between the modernization process in Turkey and folk music vocal training is also discussed.It is assumed that our main problem is that the vocal training techniques used in music education institutions do not overlap with the vocal usage patterns available in traditional music.In this study, the existing problems in Turkish folk music vocal education are discussed within the framework of the effects of the modernization process on the formation of these problems.In this context, interviews were held with nine educators who give voice training and repertoire lessons in the field of traditional music in conservatories and music education institutions in order to identify existing problems and propose solutions.The opinions of these experts were analyzed and evaluated within the framework of the literature on this field. In this research, it was concluded that the glottal and acoustic analyzes of each region's singers should be made separately in order to reveal a valid method in terms of performing the unique features of each region. Transforming the obtained data into exercises with the collaboration of voice trainers will be important in solving the current problem. It was concluded that features such as resonance, articulation and dagger (hançere) in traditional performance should be considered in this training process.
