The crimes of match-fixing and incentive payment in Turkish Law

Sports is an activity which has taken place in human life since the early ages. While it included such activities as leaping, running, jumping to survive, in time it has been started to be played for fun. Sports has changed into an aesthetical, political and economical activity in time. Especially today, sports has become an industrial phenomenon. The economical value of sports caused some unfair behaviour to take place in sports and some performances which are against the fair-play are seen in sports competitions. Two of the unfair behaviours in sports are Match-fixing and incentive payment. Those two are as old as the humanity. So that, Eupolos of Thessaly has given money to his opponents in 388 BC. Match-fixing and incentive payment acts are come across frequently and there are news on media about them. In our country, match-fixing and incentive payment acts has become a crime on 14 April 2011 with the Law 6222 on Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports. In this study, the match-fixing and incentive payment crimes will be examined in order to crime examination methods and there will also be given examples on international regulations about these crimes.
