Comparison of Turkish and Kazak cartoon films: An example of analysis in the context of cultural codes

In the history of communication, the last century has come to the fore with new emerging fields whose development is difficult to predict. The digital world, which has developed depending upon the invention of electricity, offers innovations that are still difficult to predict for the benefit of humanity. After the written communication that started with newspapers, magazines and books, visual and auditory communication continued to develop with radio and television and brought many innovations to the field of radio and cinema. Because cartoons have taken their place in the historical process of cinema, it is a field worth examining as a result of these developments. As in the world, cartoons have become a phenomenon that closely concerns the political, economic, and social structures of the countries in Turkey and Kazakhstan. The cartoon industry, which produces fairy-tale content for children as a target audience and appeals to children's interests, has been influential in the educational processes of several generations who grew up in both countries in the last century. The cartoons, which were previously imported products in Turkey and Kazakhstan, were developed by local broadcasters in the following years and presented to the public by local channels. In the research, text analysis technique was applied by using qualitative method. The main body of this research consists of four parts. After the first chapter, "Introduction", in the second chapter, basic introductory information and mass media related to the subject are mentioned. Then, the concept of culture and the studies in mass media for children were examined. Since examining the historical development of cartoons is important for correctly matching scientific concepts (with research), information about the effect of television on children and the developmental stages of television through cartoons are mentioned in the third part of the study. In the fourth part, an overview of the development of Kazakh and Turkish cartoons was created, with the examples of "Pepee" broadcast on TRT Children (TRT Çocuk) channel in Turkey and "Ali and Aya" (Әли мен Айя) cartoon broadcast on Balapan channel in Kazakhstan.
