This master's thesis examines the Representation of Turkish women workers in German literature through the lens of Gün Tank's novel "The Optimists - A Novel of Our Mothers". The novel follows Nour, a Turkish migrant women worker who arrives in Germany in the 1970s and confronts discrimination and harsh working conditions alongside other women. The study focuses on how Tank's work shapes perceptions of Turkish women workers and challenges stereotypes. Nour and her peers are depicted not merely as laborers, but as active agents shaping their environment, offering a nuanced portrayal of Turkish women workers. These literary works provide insights into the individual experiences of Turkish women and offer new perspectives on social and cultural dynamics in Germany. They facilitate a deeper understanding of the challenges and identities of Turkish women workers The thesis employs qualitative content analysis to identify patterns, themes, and meanings in the experiences of Turkish women workers in Germany. Additionally, a literary analysis of Tank's novel sheds light on their personal narratives and struggles. The Objective of this thesis is to illuminate the lives and circumstances of Turkish women workers in Germany through the analysis of "The Optimists - A Novel of Our Mothers" by Gün Tank. It seeks to raise awareness among readers about the migration experiences of these women, emphasizing their autonomy in migrating to Germany independently rather than through family reunification. This study offers an innovative research perspective by challenging conventional representations and stereotypes, paving the way for novel research methodologies. It integrates insights from literary studies, migration studies, and gender studies to foster a comprehensive understanding of migration and integration.
