Findings on the preference of the ney as a vocational instrument in Turkish music state conservatories

The ney instrument, one of the instruments of Turkish music, has survived through various stages from the past to the present day. As a result of the accumulation of many different cultures, the ney instrument has a special importance among the instruments of Turkish music. Especially after Mevlana came to Konya, the value given to the ney instrument increased, and the mystical side of the ney instrument was further strengthened with the instruments. The contribution of the Mevlana school to the ney instrument's survival is undeniable. In the study, it is examined which factors are effective on the student in choosing the ney instrument as a professional instrument in conservatories that provide Turkish music education. The research is aimed at determining the situation and exhibits a descriptive feature. For this reason, first of all, a literature review was made on the subject, and then the survey technique was applied to the samples. In addition, expert opinions on the subject were also included when deemed necessary. The obtained data has been interpreted by turning into tables in order to be easy to understand. If some of the research results are to be listed, some of the results obtained are that the students' familiarity with the ney instrument is effective in choosing the ney instrument, the number and quality of the instructors giving ney training are very effective in the selection of professional instruments, the easy availability of the instrument and the suitability of the student's body structure are also very important.
