Cultural representatives keeping the tradition of instrument made in Turkish music (Kastamonu provincial example)

The instrument, an important cornerstone of music, plays a significant role in Turkish music as well. This study explores the history and developmental stages of instrument making throughout the course of music from its inception to the present. Research is conducted on the construction of instruments, one of the elements constituting music, aiming to contribute to the literature by incorporating various topics related to instrument making into the theoretical framework of the thesis. During these investigations, numerous headings are examined, and topics related to instrument making are included in the theoretical framework of the thesis to contribute to the literature in the best possible way. The art of instrument making is considered a branch of science, and this scientific discipline, which examines instrument making down to the finest detail anatomically, physically, and acoustically, has been facilitated by the development of modern technology, allowing the examination of instruments made without human intervention. Praetorius is the greatest representative of this scientific discipline, having become the godfather of Organology, the science of instruments, with his book titled "De Organographia" in the second volume. The first Organology studies in our country began in the 19th century during compilation works that recorded instruments. From then until today, academic and organological studies have continued. Despite the music culture in almost every province of our country, these differences are reflected in the instruments, and many region-specific instruments are produced and played. In this research, alongside the investigation of the music culture in Kastamonu and the instruments accompanying this music, instrument makers are also examined. As a result of these investigations, in the Kastamonu region, the instrument known in the literature as Classical Kemenche has taken on the regional name of Tırnak Kemane, especially in the coastal areas, and has become an indispensable part of all kinds of entertainment. Traditional köçeklik accompanies the music played with Tırnak Kemane, creating a vibrant cultural tradition. Most of the instrument makers in Kastamonu produce Tırnak Kemane, and there is also a significant presence of masters engaged in the production of the Baglama instrument. Generally, the manufacture of folk music instruments is prominent in Kastamonu. In addition to folk music instruments, there are also masters who engage in the production of Turkish music string instruments.
