The ensemble of traditional performance and conducting in Turkish music

The movements of westernisation have an important place in the history of Turkish Music. However, the attempt to reinterpret Turkish Music with a western way of understanding has been made without a plan and substructure, so it has brought about many problems. Such applications contrary to our understanding of art and music caused some styles and genres of music to be forgotten or degenerated.The concepts of ?chorus? and ?conductor? are western reflections in Turkish Music. In the thesis of ?The Ensemble Performance and Conducting in Turkish Music?, the aim has been to determine the traditions of Voice ensemble before the western approaches started to affect Turkish Music. The related performances are groups of performance formed by ensembles of instruments and/or voices.The first chapter of the thesis includes the study of ensemble performance models envisaged by the tradition as well as an effort to compile information about the conductor. The second chapter studies the subject of conducting in the light of information obtained from the traditional performance and contains comparisons with the present-day applications of conducting. The third chapter focuses on the concepts of chorus and conductor during the era of the Republic. In addition, in this chapter, the main chorus and their conductors that help the related concepts to become widespread have been determined. The interviews with the respected conductors of the present-day Turkish Music are also appended to this chapter, which tries to establish the current problems about the related subject and presents suggestions for solution.The literature has been researched very carefully and advice from professional people has been received.
