Morphometric Evaluation of Os Sacrum in Turkish Population by Computerized Tomography

Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: Understanding the os sacrum and its anatomical points will contribute to science at many points. Good knowledge of this region is very important both in the clinic and in surgical interventions, as well as giving us important information about gender determination. Considering these reasons, we aimed to determine and evaluate the anthropometric and angular measurements of the regions used in the clinic, surgery, and sex determination with 22 different measurements on the sacrum, considering the gender difference. Materials and Methods: In our study, radiological images obtained by the "Multidetector Multi-Section Computed Tomography Method" of 100 female and 100 male individuals aged between 18 and 91 who applied to the radiology service were evaluated retrospectively. Radiological images were rendered in 3D on the software called "Radiant Dicom Viewer", and 14 different angle and length measurements were made on the sacrum bones in these images. The measurements made afterward were statistically evaluated on SPSS and the findings were reached. Results: According to the findings of our study, when the sacrum width, sacral height, sagittal diameter of the basis osis sacri, lumbosacral angle, sacral kyphosis, sacrococcygeal angle values were evaluated in terms of gender, statistically significant results were obtained. Conclusion: When we searched the literature, measurements made on the sacrum were made separately, generally angle measurements and length measurements. In our study, we aimed to present a more informative and comprehensive resource to the literature by bringing together all the length and angle measurements that can be made with the least error. As a result of this study, we found that the gender factor has a significant effect on the sacrum bone; We have concluded that the age factor may be effective in some cases.
