Narrative postmodern critique of modernism in Turkey

Postmodernism, born as a protest against all negative nature of modernism and modern life, is a philosophical movement built on the critiques of problems arising out of modernism. Postmodernism has a presence in almost every area of life such as economy, politics, social life and art. The influence of scientific and technological developments, experienced especially in the last century, on the individual and public life has affected the literature on all hands and in different ways. Changes occuring in the economic order and the new social life as a result of advances in science and industrialization have been the main subjects of postmodern narratives. For example, the results of individualisation and alienation, the negative effects of rapidly developing technology, consumption due to excessive production, dilemmas of the media/show society are the topics dealt within the various postmodern narratives. In order to understand the changes in Turkish society and in the world, novels and postmodern narratives should be studied, which will shed light on the problems of the era. By examining a contemporary topic, which is the criticisms of modernism in post-modern narrations representations, the present study will help illustrate today's community life and its effects on literature.
