Abstract (EN)
Developing in different regions and making its existence felt from the past into the present, Turkish art, has had a great role in the formation of contemporary Turkish art in the 21st century by evolving in Anatolia in accord with the proper techniques of the era. When the history of contemporary Turkish painting is analysed, during the second half of the 19th century with the emergence of the art of oil painting, works of art focusing on war as their theme have started to be seen. Paintings depicting the Balkan War can be seen as examples in this context. Paintings of our War of Independence coincide with the years of the War of Independence. In those years, the encouragement to paint the aforementioned themed paintings coming from forward looking statesmen cannot be denied. Painters from the generation of military painters whose birthdates fall in the 1880's, have lived the Balkan War, World War I, Gallipoli and the Turkish War of Independence with all its aspects. Their artistic personas have been formed under these circumstances. After the education they received in the school of fine arts, they continued their art education in Paris. With the start of WWI, they had to return back to the country. After WWI, came the years of the National Independence. During the period of the National Independence the nation experienced the destruction of an empire and the birth pains of a new regime. Many of our artists joined this war, were wounded or martyred. For this reason war paintings using the battle of the period of 1914-1935 as their theme were made in Turkish paintings. The best way to understand the concept of art is by analyzing works of art. E.Panofsky's Iconographic analysis is to establish a relationship between the topic and concept, to discover stories and allegories by analyzing the imagined impressions. Iconological analysis is to determine, the era in which the work of art was made, its historical characteristics, the personality of the artist and the effects of that era on the work or art.
