The nature abstractions of Turkish painting

The nature consists of everything that constantly changes and renews itself and where human factors are ineffective. Abstraction is the alteration or simplification of a form chosen by the artist until it has no resemblance with its initial shape. Since nature constitutes the real world itself, it is portrayed by most of the artists as abstracted from earliest times of history. The artists who have taken up nature as the subject have shown that they can go beyond the time with their imagination. In this thesis, nature abstractions in art movements in Western paintings are discussed by examining historical processes from initial drawings on cave walls in prehistoric times to present day which is reached in consequence of exploration of paint and technique by artists. Turkish painting which proceeded within a traditional style until eighteenth century. As from nineteenth century, after being impressed by Western painting, Turkish painting had a progress in line with westernisation movements. The techniques used in Turkish painting are examined starting from miniatures in Ottoman Empire and the influence of Western painting on Turkish paint artists are analysed up to today's contemporary painting. The way that nature abstractions painted in Turkish painting examined through artworks. The abstraction of nature is studied both on art movements in Western paintings and on techniques in Turkish paintings and the influences of art movements on artists are also analysed. With reference of the paintings of great artists, it is aimed to enlighten the future artists on how nature can be examined, portrayed and strengthened.
