Portrait abstraction in Turkish painting art - after 1980

The main research subject of this thesis is that the figure in modern art is detached from representation (trying to appear three-dimensional, symbolism, dictating something to the viewer) and revives on the artist's canvas as an image. In the first part, how the portrait and self-portrait works started and developed in the historical process in the art of painting were examined together with the selected sample artists. Next; The definition of figure and figuration distinction has been tried to be made. The difference between form and image, form-formlessness and deformation, the tension between abstract and realism are examined. Again in this section, the definition of the concept of the comfort area of the artist is made. The results of the changes after 1980 and the technological developments that started in the 2000s were discussed and the effects of this on portrait painting were examined. This part has been completed by examining the definition of disrupted realism. In the third part, our portrait artist who works in Turkey after 1980 were examined. In the last part, the portrait abstractions in my own paintings are questioned together with their analysis.
