Abstract (EN)

This study was written to reveal the traces and symbols of Shamanism in Turkish painting and the possibilities in producing modern Turkish painting. Considering the first examples of the art of painting given by the shamans in line with the archaeological findings, we can accept them as the first artists of history. Since shaman and shamanism are intertwined with nature and mystical forces in the process from the first ages to the present, and also because of the value they give to life, the changes in the field of modern art have always preserved their value. With this feature, it has always been the focus of attention of artists in the field of painting. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the survival of shamanism and shaman symbols, which are the heritage of Turkish culture, and to transfer them to future generations, by examining the works containing shamanist symbols in contemporary Turkish painting, making their visual analysis and producing the researcher's own individual works. From the findings obtained within the scope of this research, it has been understood that the most common symbols in the works representing Turkish painting, in line with the artists researched, are the tree of life, evil eye beads, horse, groves, mountains and birds.
